ADVANCED REFWORKS
This session covers topics such as advanced searching, RefGrab-It, manually importing references, working offline, editing multiple references and more. Attendees must have attended a Basic RefWorks Workshop, or have a working knowledge of RefWorks’ basic features.
CHOOSING, NARROWING AND RESEARCHING YOUR TOPIC
This presentation is the first segment of the Research Paper Workshop series. It provides information on how to choose an interesting and relevant topic for your research paper, how to narrow your topic, and how to research your topic.
COMMUNICATION DATABASES
Learn to effectively use electronic databases such as Communications and Mass Media Complete, Academic Search Premiere, Opposing Viewpoint Resource Center, Sage, Custom Newspapers, Business and Company ASAP, Business Index, various Internet resources for statistical data and more. Prerequisite: Attendees must have basic computer skills.
EDUCATION DATABASES
This workshop will cover the ERIC and Education Research Complete databases. It will include use of the ERIC Thesaurus for finding descriptors, ERIC documents, and search strategy.

This presentation is the Academic Computing segment of the Research Paper Workshop series.
HOW TO WRITE A SUCCESSFUL RESEARCH PAPER
This presentation is the Center for Academic Excellence segment of the Research Paper Workshop series. Its focus is on the structure and organization of a successful research paper, with an emphasis on selecting a strong thesis and supporting it with convincing arguments and appropriate source materials.
INTRO TO JSTOR
This workshop covers the basics of searching JSTOR – a scholarly archival database focusing primarily on humanities and social sciences. Learn how to navigate this database, perform basic searches, save and export citations and link to ARTStor images through JSTOR. Attendees must have basic computer skills to attend this class.
INTRO TO QUICK SEARCH
It is easy to be overwhelmed by the sheer number of items in electronic collections. With so many starting points for research, users can struggle to find the best source, and often bypass the library to search the Web. Quick Search provides users with a simple and intuitive starting point for research. It searches our library’s entire e-resource collection at once—including our catalog. Attendees must have basic computer skills to attend this class.
INTRO TO REFWORKS
This workshop covers all the basics – creating a RefWorks account, importing data, organizing your database and generating a bibliography. Great for new users or even existing users who would like a refresher. Attendees must have basic computer skills and familiarity with the use of online periodical databases to attend this class.
NURSING DATABASES
Find articles on your research topics in electronic databases such as CINAHL which provides indexing for over 1200 nursing, allied health and health sciences journals and Health Source: Nursing /Academic which provides full text from nearly 520 scholarly full text journals focusing on many medical disciplines. Also featured are abstracts and indexing for over 550 journals.
ONLINE LIBRARY BASICS
This workshop demonstrates how to navigate and use Gill Library’s home page and general resources, such as the catalog, electronic reserves (ERes), WorldCat, journals, databases and save documents to a folder using MY EBSCO. Prerequisite: Attendees must have basic computer skills.
PSYCHOLOGY DATABASES
This workshop will cover the PsycInfo and PsycArticles databases. It will include the use of the PsycInfo Thesaurus, limiting to publication type (articles, books, book chapters, etc.), and search strategy.
